Not only do Australians consume an average of 46.5kg of red meat each year, but they have also been a world leader in the export of commercial livestock for more than 30 years. As one of the most successful and proficient producers of livestock and a leader in the export of red meat and livestock, the Australian red meat industry plays an instrumental role in the countryâs society, environment, and economy.
Much of the success of Australiaâs $16.1 billion red meat industry is attributed to the countryâs abundance of high quality saleyard operators. Most of Australiaâs best saleyard operators, as well as the red meat industryâs other profitable operations such as the growing feedlot sector, are located in the resource-abundant state of Western Australia. In fact, five of Australiaâs best saleyard operators are located in Western Australia. These include Boyanup Saleyard, Brunswick Saleyard, Katanning Saleyard, Midland Saleyard, and the Great Southern Regional Cattle Saleyards found in the city of Plantagenet. (more…)
